Invitations are sent out and your party contents are packed it into a box to be dropped off at your door the day of, or before your event. This way you can set up the party on your own. Or, we can have it set up for you with an additional investment.
1st birthday celebrations can be so much fun. Creating a memorable and engaging event should be the priority of every party planner, and lots of photos since the star of the day will have no recollection. Below are some more tips for throwing a great 1st birthday party!
WHAT DO THEY LIKE?
Start here. The theme of the party should revolve around something that the birthday boy/girl enjoys. A favourite food, character, animal, stuffed toy, or song. These are all great inspirations to get the creative juices flowing in terms of colours, textures, and objects.
WHERE ARE YOU GOING
The location of the party is key. Are you going to go all out and rent a hall, go to a local indoor gym, or host it in your home. Do what is the most convenient for you and your guests. Think about your numbers.
TIMING
For a first birthday party make sure that the party is set for AFTER NAP TIME. This way our star has their beauty sleep. Also, as stated in other blogs, try to keep the party time to a minimum (1 to 2 hours). Of course, especially when family is over, the party will organically last much longer. That being said, don’t count on the birthday boy/girl to keep it up without some minor refreshment.
THE CROWD
This is where the vibe of your party comes from. What people and how many of them are invited will dictate the environment you are creating. It is quite presumptuous that the birthday boy/girl will not have any ‘friends’ of their own to invite, given the popularity and intimacy of baby/parent communities. Have the family’s closest friends and family be a part of this milestone.
CAKE VS. CUPCAKE
Everyone loves to see the ‘cake smash’! Don’t spend too much time or money on the smash cake. Make sure you have a small dessert, possibly cupcakes that mimic the smash cake, available for your guests.
Also, don’t be surprised if the birthday star does not feel inclined to cover their faces in the sweetness.
FOOD
Make sure that you have food that is appropriate for all age groups attending. You will need to have baby safe and appropriate foods available, but you will also need to consider Papa G and his larger appetite. This goes for drinks too!
BE UNIQUE
Make the experience unique and to be remembered. This can be done in one of 2 ways.
The first, you could create a commemorative event during the party e.g., collect notes from party guests addressed to the birthday boy/girl, create a time capsule made up of items donated by your guests.
Second, you could give a cool giveaway that is personalized and unique (be sure it is age appropriate). Currently, we have a party favour being created that will leave guests (babies and moms) with a personalized sippy cup and wet wipes. So thoughtful, and practical! – the key to a great favour.
ACTIVITY/ENTERTAINMENT
Some suggest against having entertainment given the age of your child, but I think this ignores 2 things. 1. There are other guests, including parents, who you may want to think of. 2. Babies like entertainment too – you can have a story teller, musical guest, or puppet show. All are sure to engage your birthday boy/girl and guests.
WHAT TO WEAR
All eyes will be on the birthday star so take some time to think this one out. Keep your theme in
mind, and be practical. Don’t forget about the BIB!!
