Planning the Best Valentine's Party
Planning a Valentine’s Day Party
Whether you decide to throw the ‘traditional’ love fest, or you have a stake in anarchy with the anti-love bash, here are some tips to help you pull together a great party.
Who is going to be invited will dictate the temperament of the party. If you are going the traditional route invite couples. If you are going anti invite all the singletons. Or, like we are doing for a party this year, invite them all – this v-day party is creating a mix up of couples, friends, and singletons that would make a great catch.
Don’t feel like this holiday has create a dividing line in your address book. Share the love!
Keep guests’ whistles wet with a fun, theme inspired, cocktail. To really get the party going, make this a shot!
For kids, floats are a great way to get kids involved in an activity that lends well to the red and white/black theme.
V-day parties can be given so much character by creating numerous mini-food items and easy apps. Not only will this add to the theme, in terms of variety, but it will also lend to getting guests to move around and mingle. That being said, don’t get too carried away with a 20 item menu. Try to make items that can be prepared the day before – if not longer.
Try to keep food light and simple – some say to avoid onions and garlic, but I don’t necessarily agree – have mints readily available.
V-day is also great because you can get away with going overboard on desserts and be more reserved on decadent food items e.g. caviar, oysters, truffles.
You can go as big, or a little, as you would like here. Don’t feel restricted to RED and HEARTS, there are a number of other ways to keep the love vibes with a different palette. Whatever you do choose, keep it consistent and within the means of your budget.
Hint: Food has a great way a dressing up the place, and feeding guests – multipurpose!
Now, this can be as big or as little as you want – once again. You can organize an actual event/activity/entertainment for the event, or you can create a simple photo-booth/photo backdrop as a way to get guests into the theme as well as sharing their memories via Facebook. The online memories gives you one less thing to worry about.
Take the time to create a fun loving playlist. I mean, I’m sure (former) Songza/iMusic/Google Play has got this all figured out, but this is a great way for you to add a personal touch to the party.
Take this a step further and upload the decided upon playlist to some USB drives and give them to guests as a take-away.
A great way to stay on theme is to play a loop of your favourite love movie(s). Throw the TV on mute and just let that bad boy roll. Great background setting for the mood and, again, adding a personal touch to the event.
You do not have to throw the traditional dinner party, or heart/chocolate/red infused love fest…..Feel free to create a get together that gets people talking, laughing, and interacting with one another – team building excursions can be great for that – giving them the time to get to know each other and form some sort of a ‘bond’ on some level.
After all, Valentine’s day (however murky the history) is about sympathy, valor, and romance.
Spread the love
